Horrible news, fight fans. It seems that for the second time Georges St-Pierre has once again suffered an injury while training to defend his title. UFC.com released the somber news today, with an official tweet by Dana White:
“GSP blown acl will be out for 10 mos. Now [Carlos] Condit vs [Nick] Diaz for the interim welterweight title on Feb 4th in Las Vegas!!”
So it seems the champ has been scraped from his looming showdown with the Stockton bad boy Nick Diaz. This is the second time GSP has fallen prey to the injury bug, as he was set to defend his belt against Carlos Condit the same night that Nick Diaz defeated MMA legend BJ Penn.
So, what now?
Carlos Condit will now have his chance to fight for the title. Originally, Condit was promised a title shot, only to have it lost due to GSP’s original injury. He was then promised the first crack at the champ, despite the outcome of Diaz/Penn. Errr. Soon after Diaz won, White backtracked on his word, and opted to give Diaz a crack at GSP first, at the behest of the champion. It now seems that Condit has been given the chance he was originally promised, as both he and Nick Diaz will be competing for the interim belt on February 4th at UFC 143.
As for further collateral damage due to the injury; Josh Koscheck is now left without an opponent. For he was slotted in the co-main event to face off against Carlos Condit.
