Welcome back Dan. In one of the most anticipated fights in MMA history, Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua went to absolute war. The first three rounds of the five round main event saw Henderson completely control Rua. Henderson’s patented H-Bomb was landing with alarming frequency, that paired with some nifty uppercuts had Rua on skates throughout the first three rounds. It was surprising that Rua was able to survive, as many times it seemed like he was just about done. Things changed in the fourth, where Henderson seemed to gas, and Rua came back strong, often beating Hendo to the punch. In the fourth, Rua had Henderson mounted for most the round, but could not finish the fight. It was a huge comeback, but too little, too late, as Henderson got the unanimous decision nod from the judges.
In the night’s co-main event, Cung Le and Wanderlei Silva did little to disappoint, as both came out swinging. It was a rare thing, as Silva chose and fought with some caution. Le threw his various kicks and mixed in some spinning back elbows, one which caught Silva clean and dropped him. Silva remained composed though, and survived the round. The second saw Silva land a huge right hand, one that visible hurt Le. He would then rush Cung with some vicious combos that would drop Le. Silva would continue to rain down blows on a downed Le, until the ref stopped the fight.
