Another change has been made for the upcoming UFC 118 fight card in Boston on August 28 as U.K. lightweight Terry Etim has been forced out of his bout with Joe Lauzon and will now be replaced by one-time Octagon vet Gabe Ruediger who also happened to be casted off of season 5 of The Ultimate Fighter.
News of the change was reported by Ruediger himself via his Twitter as MMAWeekly.com has since confirmed through multiple sources that he will be stepping in as Etim’s reason for bowing out was not reported.
For those of you who do not remember, Gabe ‘Godzilla’ Ruediger (17-5) was a former contestant during season 5 of TUF and was booted off the show for failing to make weight and has fought for the organization before that back at UFC 63 where Ruediger suffered a gut wrenching KO loss to hard hitting Melvin Guillard.
However, after taking care of some previous injuries Ruediger has turned his career around and comes back to the UFC on a six fight winning streak as he looks to make it seven in a row at the expense of his TUF 5 teammate Joe Lauzon (18-6) who looks to bounce back from a loss to Sam Stout earlier this year at UFC 108 in January.
The matchup will likely still remain on the one hour “UFC Prelims” special on Spike TV being that Lauzon is the crowd favorite and fighting in his home state as the bout will still be a good one to watch. Stay tuned for more details.
