UFC 111 GIF: Rousimar Palhares snaps Tomasz Drwal’s knee with a Heel hook

Rousimar Palhare’s heel hook submission of Tomasz Drwal at UFC 111 last night would have probably won the “Submission of the Night” award, but it came with a lot of controversy after the grappler held on for an extra five seconds and popped the Polish middleweight’s knee in their fight. Some observers felt that Palhares held on to the submission for too long and it looks like the NJASCB agreed when they suspended him 90 days for holding on when the referee attempted to separate the fighters.

I think part of the blame goes to the referee….as soon as the guy tapped he should have broken it up…poor job which resulted in injury

True but he didn’t Let go after the ref tried to separate them

Keep in mind, when you are in a heel hook, your opponents heel is in your armpit, you have hold of his calf, your other hand is under and grasping your wrist, and your knees are pressing together, all the while you are rolled onto your side which tends to pin down your own arms…. instant release is next to impossible

Thank you for the information, I may use that in a post for tomorrow. Thanks for the info Bruce, I have trained, but it seems like you have pretty good training so I may use that in a argument.
