Fact or Fiction: Georges St.Pierre defeated Dan Hardy at UFC 111 by unanimous decision in very dominant fashion, taking down the British fighter for five rounds and having his way with him for a overwhelming majority of the fight. While most observers consider St.Pierre’s performance dominating and impressive, there are a few fans that consider the performance boring.
Now St.Pierre is being compared to boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, who is often critisized for his defensive style where he picks apart his challengers and for 12 rounds. Floyd is often criticised by his critics as a “safe” fighter who does not take chances and never really looks to finish and St.Pierre’s style of wrestling and ground and pound is being pointed out by some critics as the same.
St.Pierre’s style is similar, taking down his opponents at will and grinding them out for five rounds. St.Pierre has now defeated Josh Koscheck, Matt Serra, Jon Fitch, BJ Penn, Thiago Alves and Dan Hardy in his past six consecutive fights. While the welterweight champion’s performances have been impressive and dominating, he has rarely stood toe-to-toe with his opponents and traded strikes.
Some observers feel that St.Pierre is now also becoming a “Safe fighter” who is scared to stand and trade with his competition. I want to know what you think, vote in this poll below and respond in the comment section on this statement.
