Rashad Evans went back to his roots tonight against Thiago Silva and it paid off big time for the former TUF 2 season winner as he defeated his opponent by decision after a big scare in the third round.

The story of round 1 and 2 was Rashad Evans dominant wrestling, as he made Thiago Silva pay every time he attempted to exchange strikes while on their feet. Rashad also used his speed and fast hands to punish Thiago as he came inside on him, only to change levels and take him down again.

The most interesting part of the fight happened with two minutes left in the fight, as a frustrated Thiago Silva began to mock Rashad Evans head movement and put his hands down in an attempt to have him exchange blows.

Silva then became the agressor and backed up Evans who was clearly looking to coast out of the third round and take the fight by decision. Silva nailed Rashad with a big right hand, which rocked him and sent him back to the cage.

At this point Rashad was rocked, but Silva did not capitalize and finish off Evans. Silva began to mock Evans more while he was rocked and missed his chance to pull off a big come from behing upset win.

Silva backs off and lets Rashad get back his composure costing him the win on the judges score cards. All three judges scored the fight 29 to 28 for Rashad Evans.

During the post fight interview with Joe Rogan, Rashad referred to a “actor” who had returned to the UFC as a potential next opponent. Hopefully, this time he actually will fight Quinton Rampage Jackson in March.
