Houston Alexander exploded on to the UFC with two knockouts over veterans Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara in back to back fights. Since then his opponents learned to put him on his back and take away his dangerous hands, causing him to lose three straight fights.
Alexander took a fight outside of the UFC and knocked out veteran Sherman Pendergarst at Adrenaline MMA, a “Get right” fight the UFC brass allowed him to take for experience.
Alexander will now face off against Kimbo Slice in the biggest fight of his career and says he has trained harder then ever for tomorrow nights bout at the Ultimate Fighter Finale.
Alexander also said he did not hesitate when asked to take the fight against Slice, he knew how much the fight could mean to his career if he wins.
“When the UFC asked me about this fight, the first thing that came to my mind was ‘wow,’” Alexander continued. “It didn’t take me long to accept this fight. Kimbo and I come from similar fighting backgrounds. We have a lot in common and this could do big things for our careers. This fight means a lot to both of us.”Alexander also says he does not feel that his fight against Slice will be a “All out brawl” as many observers are predicting.
The UFC is building this fight as a “standup” war and I am hoping to see this live up to expectations when they square off tomorrow night. Houston and Kimbo are very similiar in their fighting styles and perhaps at similiar points in their careers.
A win secures a spot on the UFC roster, a loss could mean both fighters could be moving on to smaller promotions.
