Ronnys Torres was supposed to face off against Melvin Guillard twice over the course of the past year, but injuries have kept the Brazilian from making his UFC debut.
Now in a interview with Tatame.com Torres coach André Pederneiras at Nova União revealed that a fight against Melvin Guillard is possible again for UFC 109 on February 6.
Melvin Guillard (22-8) was on a three fight win streak, which earned him a main event bout against Nate Diaz at Fight Night 19 where he lost by submission (Guillotine). Guillard has always shown that he can knockout anyone who stands in front of him, but has been caught in some of the most text book of submissions in his fights. He will need to improve his defense before he steps in the cage to avoid losing in this manor again.
Ronny Torres (14-1) has won 8 straight fights and has not lost since 2007. Half of his 14 victories have come by way of submission which will come in handy against Guillard who has lost 7 fights by submission. Torres has 5 of his wins by way of knockout which means he may stand and trade with Guillard as well.
UFC 109 is rumored to be taking place on February 6, on Superbowl weekend. Welterweight champion Georges St.Pierre is supposed to return, but we have not received official word from the UFC yet.
