Game made on the Fight Night Round 4 engine looks better than UFC 2009, better grappling, much more…
EA Sports first attempt in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts video games “EA MMA 2010″ has got a lot of attention from the MMA community. It has also got the interest of the UFC and THQ the developer of their hit video game franchise “UFC Undisputed 2009″. During the past few weeks fighters outside of the UFC have been confirmed for the upcoming game including Fedor Emelianenko, Gegard Mousasi and Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral. Even former UFC Heavyweight champion Randy Couture has signed on to be a part of EA’s first MMA video game.
Now in a post on the Underground formus has revealed that a former employee of EA Sports has leaked details about the upcoming video game. The first detail that has been leaked is that Nick Diaz and the rumored fighters such as the Shamrock brothers (Ken and Frank) and Tim Sylvia are also in the game as well.
The poster also revealed that the game has been built on the “Fight Night Round 4″ Engine and actually looks better than “UFC 2009 Undisputed”.
“Let me start by saying that I worked for EA Tiburon for a while, but am currently completely unaffiliated with the studio or EA in general.
I got to play the EA MMA game very briefly, in a VERY early phase of development, and this is what I’m willing to say about it.
First of all, signed fighters, since that seems to be a big topic of discussion:
Randy Couture is in. Tim Sylvia is in. Nick Diaz is in. The Shamrocks are in. I’m almost positive that Fedor is also in, but my memory may be failing me, so don’t quote me on that. There are more, but I can’t remember who off the top of my head.
The game is based on the FNR4 engine, and the art goals I’ve seen are absolutely beautiful. Better looking than UFC Undisputed, even better than Fight Night.”
The poster also revealed that game’s grappling and submission feature are actually smoother than the UFC 2009′s as well. The poster revealed while the game is in early stages grappling will be based on the analog sticks, similar to the gameplay in Fight Night Round 4.
“Gameplay, love it or hate it, will be largely analog-stick based, not dissimilar to Fight Night. This makes the game slightly less intuitive to newcomers, but will also make it far more technical and less button-mashy. Needless to say, the analog stick motions for striking opens up a much wider range of technical opportunities than the simplistic “high, low, special” system in Undisputed.”A small detail that was also leaked was the fact that players will be able to fight for several fictional promotions and work their way from the smaller shows to the big shows. Something many fans have asked for in the upcoming version of “UFC 2010 Undisputed”.
While we must take these details with a “Grain of Salt”, because the leak may very well be a current EA employee attempting to build hype for the game the details seem very note worthy.
The Fight Night Round 4 engine is beautiful and grappling on the analog sticks is a feature that may be hit or miss. We hope to bring you more details as soon as more information comes our way in the near future.
