During the backstage area from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California from the site of this past Saturday night’s StrikeForce “Carano vs Cyborg” card, MMANews.com got to speak with undefeated Heavyweight contender Brett Rogers who says that he could be competing for the promotion on their October event and still has his sights set on the title and Alistair Overeem by saying that the champ needs to “man up” and fight him soon. But if not, Rogers is also targeting Fabricio Werdum who submitted Mike Kyle in his StrikeForce debut.

Here is a look at the video of what Rogers had to say:

That comment by Rogers on Overeem did not sit too well with the Dutchman’s manager, Bas Boon who said that Rogers comment towards his client was “brainless” and that Overeem was also back in the gym for training.

“Does Brett Rogers think this help’s him? Alistair trains everyday with punchers like Errol Zimmerman, Gokhan Saki, Karaev, Sergei Kharitonov, and Semmy Schilt. He knocked out one of the best strikers in the world in Badr Hari in the first round under Hari’s rules (K-1). He fought three rounds against three time K-1 World Champion Remy Bojasky and would have won that fight had they counted the second round knock down. What exactly does Brett Rogers have on his record?”
“I understand that Brett is frustrated that Alistair is injured, but that is a brainless comment”. Boon continued. “The hand injury is now resolved and he is getting back to training carefully.”
During the event, Narcisist and myself were talking about StrikeForce really having to market Rogers a lot more now that Fedor Emelianenko is in the picture and here is a reason why as he is making his case to fight for that Heavyweight championship and down the line I am also sure the fans want to see Fedor and Rogers go at it, but you know me I could be wrong. Until then, if Overeem is indeed “training carefully” StrikeForce needs to make this fight happen. What do you think?

    Brett Rogers!!
They definitely really need to market him more, so if they decide to have him face Fedor casual fans will at least have an idea who he is.

@VEe, This is StrikeForce’s biggest mistake. Rogers is American, undefeated can KO anyone at this point and they are trying to blow up Fedor. Not many people in the U.S know Fedor and he has only sold about 250K PPVs total in the U.S.

Rogers on the other hand has won on national T.V infront of over 2 Million viewers. He has more facial recognition then Fedor does with the American public.

EliteXC made that mistake and StrikeForce is making that mistake now.

@VEe, Strikeforce doesnt even air undercards on Showtime with Jay Hieron I don’t think they know how good their stable is right now or how to use it.

    • Fujita

@VEe, So true, Strike Force doesn’t know what they have in Brett. The guy could be huge but they favor Overeem who hasn’t showed up for years. Very unfair. I hope Brett shuts up some mouths & takes that div by storm in the next bit. No way I see anyone even getting close enough to even hitting the guy. He’s a steamroller.
