We know that the UFC does whatever it takes to kill off their competition. If it means signing a promotions top fighter like they did when they signed PRIDE’s Mirko Cro Cop. Or Dana White’s constant bashing of their competitors from the WFA, IFL, EliteXC and Affliction as often as possible. Now it appears that the the UFC is also making sure that EA Sports “EA MMA 2010″ does not get quality fighters in their game as well.
According to a new report on the Under Ground Forums, the UFC is letting managers and their fighters know if they sign up to take part in EA’s game they will not fight for the UFC in the future.
Kenny Pavia of MMA Agents confirmed the rumors and said that the UFC wants the agents to make it known to all fighters.
While most of the MMA world is yelling “Foul” and cries of “Monopoly”, I am a longtime gamer and the same things are said by EA Sports and their parent company EA every day on gaming forums. Especially after EA purchased the exclusive rights to make video games for the NFL and destroyed their competitor in 2K Sports football game “NFL 2K”.
While I doubt that this would effect bigger name fighters like Josh Barnett, Fedor Emelianenko or other top free agents. It can possibly effect fighters who are working their way up through the ranks in smaller shows who are beginning to build a name.
EA Sports title “EA MMA 2010″ will go head to head with the recently confirmed “UFC Undisputed 2010″ on store shelves later next year. So it is not much of a surprise that the UFC will go to any extent to pull the rug out from under EA’s legs before they can get fighters on their virtual roster.
What are your thoughts, is this foul play by the UFC or is EA getting a taste of their own medicine?
