We all know that the reason Anderson Silva did not move up to the Light Heavyweight division is because of his friend and training partner, Lyoto Machida and his goals of capturing a title in the 205 pound division. Thursday during the UFC 98 press conference UFC president Dana White eluded to a possible bout between the two training partners if they continue to win.
MMAJunkie.com quoted White when speaking about a possible bout between the two talented teammates.
“Trust me: This is the fight business,” White said. “You know what you do in the fight business? You fight guys. You find out who’s the best. I don’t ever worry about guys saying they won’t fight. Everybody [who should fight] will wind up fighting in the end.” According to the report Machida and Silva’s manager Ed Soares did not rule out the fight, but did say it would cost the UFC about $100 Million to get them into the Octagon at opposite ends. But, we doubt Dana and the UFC would pay that much out ever for a main event.
We know that before UFC 96 friends and teammates Rashad Evans and Keith Jardine faced the same dilemma. Dana White made it 100% clear, friendship does not come before making the best fights for the fans. While the fight never materialized, it will be interesting to see what happens if Machida wins tonight and Anderson Silva wins at UFC 101.
