Earlier on in the week during the StrikeForce media conference call, CEO Scott Coker was very hopeful that he could book former EliteXC Lightweight champion KJ Noons to face current StrikeForce Lightweight champion Josh “The Punk” Thomson in a match-up for their April 11 card which will air on Showtime. However; Noons will not be taking the fight due to his focus in the world of professional Boxing, but Coker still says that Thomson will be on the card and will face someone else.

In a radio interview with MMAWeekly.com Coker says that Noons has declined to take the fight and will be put on hold, but StrikeForce is in the process of finalizing an opponent for Thomson to face on the April 11 card.

“Josh Thomson will fight. We offered it to K.J. Noons, (but) it looks like that fight will not happen. K.J. is focusing on his boxing career, so he will not be available,” Coker stated.

Coker still remains very adamant that he still wants KJ to come and compete for StrikeForce and that the invitation will always be there for him despite putting his focus on Boxing.

“I think we’ll always extend the invitation,” Coker said about bringing Noons into the Strikeforce fold. “It’s really going to be up to K.J. If he really has had success in boxing, cause I understand he has, and he’s trying to become a boxer, then he’s not going to be able to be an MMA fighter at this point in his career.”

Even though Thomson will not be facing KJ Noons, Scott Coker is still very confident in his Lightweight champion and also feels that he is ready to face top tier talent.

“He’s definitely a world class fighter. I think he could fight the top three or four guys in the world. I think he’d do very well,” Coker said about Thomson.

In addition to all that, Coker finishes up the interview by saying that more fights will be announced in the next few days, so we URDirt.com on those reported match-ups in the days to come.
