Todd Beard beats his ex-girlfriend, rips off the elderly in boiler room, Trump out of Affliction?
Will Donald Trump be forced to leave Affliction, now that Beard’s past of beating his ex-Girlfriend and ripping off the elderly has surfaced?
Trump out of Affliction?
More details have popped up about Affliction co-owner Todd Beard’s shady past on his previous convictions on beating the mother of his child and running a boiler room scam. Now there is even speculation that Donald Trump may be forced to back out of his partnership with Affliction if Beard continues as a owner of Affliction’s MMA promotion.
Kevin Iole Yahoo! Sports unveiled the details of Beard’s arrest for beating his pregnant former girlfriend.
“Denise Zullo, with whom Beard has a daughter, has alleged in court that Beard has struck, intimidated or threatened her and has received court protection from him in the past.
In a December 31, 1997, request for a restraining order, Zullo testified that in the late summer of 1996, Beard punched her in the stomach while she was pregnant. She also testified that on May 13, 1997, she sprayed him with pepper spray to stop what she called “another of his violent, drunken outbursts.”
On Oct. 28 in Bellflower, Calif., Beard withdrew a not guilty plea and instead pleaded no contest to charges of criminal threats, in which Karlos Shaverdian alleged that Beard had threatened to kill him. Judge Charles Q. Clay III found Beard guilty and set sentencing for Jan. 28.”
Luke Thomas of BloodyElbow.com also digged up some dirt from a LA Times article where Beard was sentenced for defrauding elderly people out of more than $10,000 while running a telemarketing scheme.
“The case was one of the largest prosecutions so far in Operation Disconnect, a federal crackdown on boiler rooms that sell bogus investments or goods costing far more than their value. The FBI last year made 240 arrests involving boiler-room scams in 13 states, including California.
“This represents a continuing effort at weeding out the scurrilous telemarketers who prey on old people,” said Assistant U.S. Atty. Thomas Brown.
Todd Beard, 30, of Huntington Beach pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison, plus about $9,000 in fines and restitution to victims of the scam.”
Kevin Iole also spoke about the possible departure of Donald Trump from Affliction because of the effect it can have on his gambling license.
“Those felony convictions may end billionaire Donald Trump’s association with Affliction’s MMA promotional company. Trump holds a gaming license in New Jersey and gaming licensees are not permitted to do business with felons.”
It seems ironic that after all the talk that Beard did about UFC owners Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta’s Station Casinos going out of business next year, that he may have sunk Affliction because Trump would not risk putting his own Casinos in Jeopardy. Beard’s appearance on The Ferrall show seems to have been the platform for his downfall. Beard was quoted as saying to Lorenzo Fertitta “You do not know who you are F#$^ing with” (by MMA Weekly) during a heated negotiation process between the UFC and Affliction. It also seems pretty funny that all of this information popped so soon afterwards.
Affliction is on the clock now it seems as well to decide, Todd Beard stays or their MMA promotion goes?
